Chandigarh 07th June: Mrs Vidya Stokes, Minister for Horticulture, Public Health & Irrigation, Government of Himachal Pradesh reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to strengthen the apple marketing and post harvest infrastructure in the state. While speaking as Chief Guest during the Inaugural Session of the conference, Mrs Stokes mentioned that HP over the years has become model hill state for development of horticulture. Mrs Stokes emphasized on sustainable growth of apples against climate change and to insulate farmers from vagaries of nature.
Mr Tarun Shridhar, Principal Secretary – Home & Horticulture, Government of Himachal Pradesh emphasized on the need for accurate data on post harvest losses and investments in pre-harvest technologies, branding and marketing of apples. Mr Shridhar imparted that we must focus on quantitative as well as qualitative aspects of apple cultivation so as to build the confidence of the growers as well as consumer.
