Shiromani Akali Dal Demands Public Holiday on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Shahidi Diwas

Chandigarh, Nov.13, 2025:-Shiromani Akali Dal (Chandigarh Unit) President S. Charanjit Singh Villy has urged the Chandigarh Administration to declare Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's Shahidi Diwas as a Public Holiday in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

In a statement issued today, S. Villy said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's supreme sacrifice for defending religious freedom and human rights is an eternal symbol of courage, righteousness, and compassion. He emphasized that the day holds immense spiritual and historical significance for the people of Chandigarh and the nation at large.

He further informed that a formal letter regarding this demand has already been submitted to The Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, urging the Administration to convert the existing Restricted Holiday into a Public Holiday.

S. Villy stated that declaring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's Shahidi Diwas as a public holiday would be a fitting tribute to the great Guru's legacy and would allow citizens from all communities to collectively commemorate his martyrdom through prayers and community service.
