Photography Exhibition-cum-Workshop Celebrates Legacy and Innovation at PGI

Chandigarh, April 15, 2025:-The Department of Clinical Photography, PGIMER, Chandigarh, hosted a Photography Exhibition-cum-Workshop today, celebrating the rich legacy and evolution of medical photography at the institute. This event marked a significant occasion, paying tribute to the department's remarkable journey since its inception in 1963.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the  Director, PGIMER, Professor Vivek Lal, who graced  as the Chief Guest for the event. In his address, Prof. Lal acknowledged the critical role that medical photography plays in patient care, academics, and institutional documentation. He appreciated the department's contribution in preserving PGIMER's glorious history in terms of significant events attended by honorable dignitaries and clinical photos through the years and inspiring future generations.

Prof. Lal felicitated retired senior photographers who have dedicated decades of service to PGIMER, including Indermohan Ahuja, Sukhwinder Singh, Kuldeep Soni, and Gurmeet Singh, recognizing their invaluable contributions in building and maintaining the archival image library of the institute.

The exhibition featured a captivating blend of archival photographs, student artwork, and a special showcase of vintage cameras—offering a glimpse into the technological advancements in medical photography over the decades. Visitors were particularly moved by the historical images depicting PGIMER's transformation into one of India's premier medical institutions.

Adding to the pride of the department, it was highlighted that PGIMER's B.Sc. course in Medical Animation and Audio-Visual Creation, the first of its kind in India, has successfully graduated four batches. All alumni have been placed in reputed institutions, including AIIMS and other leading hospitals, demonstrating the success of this innovative academic initiative.

Esteemed dignitaries who graced the event included Pankaj Rai (IAS), Deputy Director; Professor R.K. Ratho, Dean of Academics; Professor Sanjay Jain, Dean of  Research; Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent cum Head, Deptt. of Hospital Administration and Professor Paramjeet Singh, Head of the Department of Radio-diagnosis and Imaging and Professor-In-charge of the Clinical Photography Department.

Prof. Paramjeet Singh, in his address, applauded the department's progress and its integration of emerging technologies into medical documentation. He encouraged continued innovation and collaboration to further elevate the department's impact.

The Photography Exhibition-cum-Workshop not only celebrated the rich legacy of PGIMER but also inspired a vision for the future, where creativity, technology, and education go hand in hand.
