Chandigarh, April 11, 2025:-"Parkinson's is the second most common neurological disorder disease. It's a progressive neurological disorder that results in unintended or uncontrollable movements such as tremors, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination. While the exact cause remains unclear, genetic and environmental factors are believed to contribute to its development,"
Dr. Rahul Mahajan, neurologist at Max Hospital, Mohali said that the early stage of Parkinson's symptoms goes unnoticed. Initially, subtle symptoms like tremors and posture changes appear on one side. As the disease progresses, both sides are affected, balance issues arise, and daily tasks become challenging. In later stages, mobility severely declines, often leading to dependence on assistance or a wheelchair. Recognizing early signs can lead to timely medical intervention and improved quality of life.
Talking about treatment options, Dr. Mahajan said that while there is currently no cure for Parkinson's, medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications can significantly manage symptoms and slow disease progression.
He informed that a selected patients, deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery has shown benefits in controlling motor symptoms and improving patient mobility.
Dr. Mahajan said that living with Parkinson's disease can be challenging, but with the right medical support and rehabilitation, individuals can maintain their independence and enhance their well-being.
Exercise and physical therapy play a crucial role in managing Parkinson's symptoms and improving overall health.
