Radio Udaan Heart’s Purple Fashion Show: A Celebration of Inclusivity and Confidence

Chandigarh, February 17, 2025:-Radio Udaan, an initiative under the Udaan Empowerment Trust, successfully hosted the 8th Radio Udaan Convention 2025—a vibrant two-day event at, Panchkula. The convention celebrated diversity, empowerment, and the redefinition of beauty standards. Established with a mission to empower visually challenged individuals, Radio Udaan offers a platform that fosters inclusion and provides boundless opportunities for growth and self-expression.

Esteemed guests at the event included Mayor of Chandigarh: Harpreet Kaur Babla,; Chairperson of Jatt Bhawan :Malik, Disability Commissioner of Chandigarh; Ms. Madhvi Kataria and Praveen Prakash Ambashta, Deputy Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Their presence underscored the growing recognition of disability inclusion in the fashion and entertainment industry.

The day one featured the heartfelt play "Intezaar," directed and written by National Awardee Danish Mahajan, which captivated the audience with its powerful storytelling. The second day highlighted the "Purple Runway of Dreams"—a transformative fashion show where visually impaired participants redefined the ramp with confidence, grace, and style. The theme colour being purple as United Nation has declared purple as the official colour of disability. The event shattered stereotypes, proving that fashion is not just about clothing but about expressing individuality and breaking barriers. It left audiences mesmerized as visually impaired participants took center stage with their bold designs and unwavering confidence.

The highlight of the second day of the show was the fashion show organised for visually impaired persons. The list of winners is as follows:

Slightly Visually Impaired Female and Male Category:

Female: 1st – Swati Singla, 2nd – Aarti Manmode.

Male: 1st – Buddha Lama, 2nd – Dr. Hitesh Prasad.

Severely Visually Impaired Female and Male Category:

1st – Megha Gupta, 2nd – Kritika Sharma.

1st – Devaraju G, 2nd – Maninder Singh.

The participants were from PAN India. The winners of this competition were awarded cash prizes worth a total of Rs 2 lakh .

The Purple Runway of Dreams' was a transformative event that challenged social perceptions and redefined beauty standards. This beauty pageant cum fashion show provided visually impaired participants with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their talent on the ramp, showcasing their unique styles, personalities and confidence. The contestants walked the ramp in stylish, customised outfits, breaking stereotypes and celebrating the beauty of diversity

Beyond the fashion spectacle, the event served as a platform to raise awareness for disability rights and inclusion. Radio Udaan's mission is to create an inclusive society where people with disabilities are recognized for their skills, contributions, and achievements.

The Driving Force behind the Event, a dedicated team of MinalSinghvi, Danish Mahajan, Saif Rehman, Jyoti Malik, Rajeev Bhambri, Punee tSoni, Rajendar Johny, Sanjeev Raju, and Ashish Singla turned this vision into reality. Their commitment to empowerment and inclusivity ensured that the show was not just an event but a movement.
