Chandigarh Oct. 19, 2020:- Chandigarh Congress President Pardeep Chhabra while addressing a public meeting held in Mauli Jagran today by the Chandigarh Congress Colony Cell, accused the BJP of going back on all its electoral promises and said that BJP leaders made tall promised to garner votes, but on ground, all those promises have turned out to be a big zero. The common people present at the meeting said that colony residents have repeatedly raised the demand of ownership rights for the rehabilitation colony residents and BJP came to power by promising to implement it, but now after getting votes and assuming power, BJP has completely forgotten the promise it made. They said that now when they question the BJP leaders on the issue, they start giving flimsy excuses and run away yo avoid giving answers. Pardeep Chhabra said that Congress party will stand by the genuine demand of the colony residents and will extend full support to them to raise their issues. Further, Pardeep Chhabra added that in the difficult times of Coronavirus pandemic, the small vendors and street vendors or rehriwalas have suffered double blow, where due to pandemic and lockdown, their jobs and incomes have been hit hard and on other hand the administration under BJP has burdened them with fee and taxes. Pardeep Chhabra said that while the Street Vendors Act brought by Congress during its rule ensured the vendors of their right to do business and also save them from undue harassment from challans and authorities, the BJP administration has hit the street vendors and rehriwalas' businesses hard by burdening them with big fee and even forcing them to shift businesses to far off sectors from their original points.
Congress General Secretary Shashi Shanker Tiwari said that Chandigarh Congress has demanded that the fee if these small vendors should be waived off as a financial help during pandemic and also, they should be allowed to continue business at an alternative place in the same sectors that they used to work in earlier.
Chandigarh Congress Colony Cell President Mukesh Rai said that recently slogans were raised by angry residents against BJP leaders and questions were raised on the three times increase in water tariffs, which is like putting salt on wounds of already distressed residents.
Mahila Congres President Deepa Dubey said that by increasing the taxes and water tariffs during the distressing time of Coronavirus pandemic, the BJP has tried to find its opportunities in difficult times and have ignored the demands of common people and now even the public has made up its mind to teach the arrogant and inept BJP leaders a lesson in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections.
