National Training Program on Oral Health Concludes

Chandigarh 24th August:- A five day national training program on Oral Health in Children which was being conducted from 19th to 23rdAugust, 2014 at Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh concluded on Saturday. The valedictory function was chaired by Dr. N.K. Arora, Director General, Health Services, Haryana. The training program involved 33 senior dentists across the country representing different states and union territories, aimed at training the trainers on management of oral health problems of the children. The master trainers thus trained will further conduct training program for the dentists in their respective states for management of the dental problems in the children upto the age of 18 years. Dr. N.K. Arora congratulated the participants on the successful completion of their training and charged them to perform the responsibility of taking care of the dental problems of the rural masses in their respective states. He appreciated the leadership role of the faculty of Oral Health Sciences Centre under the chairmanship of Prof. K. Gauba at PGI, Chandigarh for developing the module for the master trainers which would ultimately be beneficial in the maintenance of optimum oral health of the rural children across the country.

This program also focused on the management strategies of early childhood caries and oral health care of the children with special health care needs like autism, cerebral palsy, visually impaired, deaf and dumb as well as medically compromised children. Apart from this, the senior dentists were also trained on the management of emergencies in dental practice. The training faculty included apart from Dr Gauba, Prof. Ashima Goyal, Dr Sachin Rai, Dr Aditi Kapur and Dr Sarabjot Kaur, all from Oral Health Sciences Centre of PGI, Chandigarh. These senior dentists have also been given resource material to further conduct the training program for the dentists who would be posted at the proposed District Intervention Centres in the rural areas as part of the RBSK mentioned Dr. Deepti Khanna from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare who has been collaborating for the conduct of this workshop.
