CII - Nanhi Chhaan Foundation Launch Week Long Tree Plantation Drive

Chandigarh 14th July:- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Nanhi Chhaan Foundation in association with Department of Education, Chandigarh launched a week long Tree Plantation Drive in the city from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-10 and Rock Garden, Sector 1, here today. The drive was formally inaugurated by K K Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh in the presence of Harpal Singh, Past Chairman, CII NR & Chairman, Nanhi Chhaan Foundation, Justice S S Sodhi, Former Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court, Nek Chand, Curator, Rock Garden, Man Mohan Singh, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council & CEO, Aroma Group, Amarbir Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council, Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII NR, Mrs Asha Kumari Jaiswal, Advocate, Councillor, MC Chandigarh & National Secretary, BJP Mahila Morcha, Chandigarh.Starting, today, the plantation drive which aims to to save the girl child as also protect the environment, would be spread across 10 Government Schools across the city till 15 July 2014.

K K Sharma, Adviser to the UT Administrator shares that CII Nanhi Chhaan plantation drive gains much significance because both environment and Women have always been linked together being the greatest, selfless givers to society. Like in abroad, there are many women conductors, similarly, we have also planned to reserve 30 % vacancies of bus conductors for women in Chandigarh. So very soon, you will see many women conductors in Chandigarh buses. In this way, women would get an opportunity to be self-reliant as also be more secure while travelling. For this, we would start a 6 month training course.

Harpal Singh, Past Chairman, CII NR & Chairman, Nanhi Chhaan Foundation said that there is a critical need to protect Girls and Trees as both are sources of life and the Human race cannot exist in their absence. Humans have been involved in acts of self-destruction by dangerously cutting forest cover and killing girl children through infanticide and foeticide.  It is time to stop this trend – we needed a movement. Hence, we launched the Nanhi Chhaan initiative. Under this initiative, we aim to target on three aspects viz Care and protection of the girl child, Enhancing Green cover and Inter - Religion harmony.

Man Mohan Singh, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council & CEO, Aroma Group  said that the CII NR CSR Wing and Nanhi Chhaan initiative seeks to honour and recognize the importance of preserving trees, flora and fauna and natural resources which protect and shield our environment. Under this initiative, it would be always encouraged to plant fresh saplings in various schools, Industry premises, Government and various institution premises through mass level tree plantation drives.
