Chandigarh, Mar.06, 2025:-The Chandigarh Congress strongly denounces the steep increase in collector rates proposed by the Chandigarh Administration.
H.S. Lucky, President of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress, has expressed profound concern over the substantial escalation, describing the proposed revision as excessive and unwarranted. He underscored that acquiring property in Chandigarh is already a formidable challenge, and such an exorbitant hike would further diminish the affordability of homeownership for the common citizen.
Pointing to stark discrepancies in the revised rates across various property categories, Lucky highlighted that, in certain cases, the collector rate has surged by as much as fourfold—an entirely unreasonable increase. He further asserted that the industrial sector, already grappling with numerous challenges, would be severely impacted, particularly with industrial land proposed to be registered at an exorbitant ₹83,000 per square yard. Additionally, while a reduction in the collector rate for showrooms on Madhya Marg was anticipated, the administration has instead escalated the rates beyond even prevailing market prices.
Numerous stakeholders have approached the Congress Party, urging intervention and advocacy for a more equitable revision. Lucky emphasized that while previous increases have been implemented, they have always remained within justifiable limits.
In response, the party intends to lead a delegation to the Chandigarh Administration, pressing for a fair and rational reassessment of the proposed hike.
