Annual Sports Meet of Senior Wing of Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School Held

Chandigarh, Nov. 16, 2024:-The Annual Sports Meet of Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School, Sector 38-D, Chandigarh, came to a spectacular conclusion today at the Sports Complex, Sector- 7. Around 450 students from classes VI to XII showcased their athletic skills and team spirit during the event, which was marked by a variety of exciting competitions and performances. The event officially commenced today with an inspiring opening ceremony. Dr. Harpreet Kaur, the esteemed Principal of the school, declared the event open after the lighting of the ceremonial torch, a symbol of unity, sportsmanship, and the spirit of competition.

The day began with a March Past by students of four houses, followed by the Oath-taking ceremony. A warm welcome to parents was extended through a delightful group song and the release of colourful balloons, setting the tone for a joyful event.  students from classes VI to XII not only demonstrated their athletic prowess in track and field events but also showcased their exceptional balancing skills through a spectacular martial arts display. 

They performed intricate martial arts movements that required precision, focus, and balance. Through a series of drills, they displayed their ability to execute various stances, kicks, and controlled movements with impeccable balance and agility. The martial arts performance added an exciting and dynamic element to the event Meanwhile, students from Classes VII and VIII demonstrated their agility and coordination in a lively lazium drill, capturing the spirit of teamwork and energy. The performances not only highlighted the students' physical prowess but also their discipline and dedication to these traditional practices.
The athletic competition was the highlight of the day, with participants vying for top honors in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races, along with the 4x100m relay, long jump, and shotput events. Among the winners, Best Athlete (U-17) Boys - Arnav Thapa (IX-B), Girls - Naman Rana (X-B), Best Athlete (U-14) Boys - Piyush Chauhan (VIII-A), Girls - Sana Bassi (VIII-B) were recognized as the best athletes for their exceptional performances. Medals were awarded to the winners by Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur in recognition of their outstanding performances. The ceremony added to the excitement of the event, as the participants proudly received their medals for their hard work and dedication. This moment not only highlighted their achievements but also inspired others to strive for excellence in future events. Yellow House emerged victorious, clinching the overall running trophy for the day. Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur's acknowledgment of the parents' support was a nice touch, reflecting the strong partnership between the school and families. The Peacock Dance, performed by the girls of classes VI to VIII, was one of the main attractions of the event. The girls, dressed in colorful peacock-inspired attire, gracefully moved to showcase the elegance and beauty of the peacock, captivating the audience with their synchronized steps and flowing costumes. At the end Bhangra performance by senior students added a fantastic cultural touch to wrap up the day's events! The combination of competition, celebration, and teamwork made school sports days so memorable. The Annual Sports Meet not only showcased the athletic talent of the students but also highlighted the school's commitment to nurturing both physical and mental well-being.
