Rain Interrups UTCA’s Matches as Veer Singh Bhasin Smashed Second Consecutive Half Century

Chandigarh, July 16, 2024:-UTCA Domestic Tournament matches were abandoned due to rain at various venues on Tuesday.

 

In a league match of the Under 16 Multi Days Tournament played at Baba Balak Nath Cricket Academy, Kambala, inform batter Veer Singh Bhasin smashed the second consecutive half century of the tournament. Earlier, Rose Zone won the toss and invited Sukhna Zone to bat first as the team collapsed at mere 151 runs. Ranveer Ahuja (34) was the top scorer while opponent skipper Avi Sharma took three wickets. Vir Singh Bhasin, who came to bat at  down three empowered the team with his individual score of 63. Once, his team was struggling at 146/7 but his patient stay took the team closer to 200.  His inning was well studded with ten boundaries. Later, Suraj scored 24 and the team was bundled out for 231. Team took a strong lead of 80 runs.  Ranveer Ahuja took three wickets for Sukhna Zone. The match could not be completed due to rain.

 

Meanwhile, another match being played between Terrace Zone and Leisure Zone at SSCA 32 was also interrupted by rain. After Terrace Zone being reduced to 171 runs, Leisure  Zone also collapsed at 210 runs. Skipper Daksh Kashyap (29) emerged as the top scorer from Terrace Zone while Prabeek Singh Boparai (50) scored a half century for Leisure Zone. Sachhman and Yashjeet added 36 runs each. Aarav and Pushkar took three wickets each from the Terrace Zone as Leisure Zone got a lead of 39 runs. Terrace Zone had scored 38 runs  without losing any wicket in their second innings before the rain intervened.

 

Under 23 matches also kicked off from Tuesday wherein the first match between Rose Zone and Rock Zone played at Cricket Institute of Chandigarh was washed away by rain. Rose Zone won the toss and invited Rock Zone to bat first as the team scored 339/8 runs in the stipulated fifty overs. Skipper Akshit Rana (105) scored a century while injured Ishmit Singh (74) and Harshit Singh (51) contributed half centuries. The second innings was not possible due to the wet ground.
