Chandigarh, Feb.23, 2024:-As part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) recently organized an enlightening Familiarization (FAM) tour for the students of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) Sector 10, Chandigarh. The students, enrolled in the Tourism Vocational course, enthusiastically embraced this opportunity to delve into the world of hospitality.
According to the Managing Director, CITCO cum Education Secretary, U.T, Ms Purva Garg, CITCO remains committed to nurturing and empowering the next generation of hospitality leaders, ensuring a vibrant future for the industry and fostering talent within the local community.
Guided by CITCO representatives, the students embarked on a comprehensive journey through the intricacies of the hospitality industry, aimed at illuminating their future career prospects. The tour commenced at the Front Office, where students gained insights into the seamless process of bookings and guest check-in/check-out procedures. Venturing further, the students explored the diverse range of accommodations available at the property, providing them with a first-hand understanding of room types and amenities. One of the best parts of the tour was when the students got to see how food and drinks are prepared and served in a hotel kitchen. Some students even had the chance to showcase their culinary skills under the guidance of experienced chefs.
The students were truly impressed by their visit to the hotel's restaurants, such as Round the Clock Coffee Shop and Magic Wok, where they were mesmerized by the inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The hospitality faculty graciously shared their expertise throughout the tour, providing valuable insights into departments like Front Office, Kitchen, Housekeeping, and Banquets. Additionally, students had the opportunity to explore outdoor areas like the lawns, swimming pool, and gym, further enriching their experience.
Reflecting on their experience, Yuvraj, Kajal, Ravina, Sneha, and Aditya, students of GMSS-10, shared that the FAM tour organized by CITCO has opened our eyes to the endless possibilities within the hospitality industry. We are inspired to pursue careers in this dynamic field.
Manpreet, Tourism Lecturer at GMSS-10, expressed gratitude, highlighting, that CITCO's FAM tour has given our students invaluable exposure to real-world hospitality practices, bridging the gap between theory and application.
Ms. Sanjana Sharma, Food Production Lecturer at GMSSS, further emphasized that the CITCO- organized FAM tour has significantly enriched our students' understanding of the industry. Witnessing the inner workings of a hotel kitchen firsthand has ignited their passion for culinary arts and provided invaluable insights into professional demands.
