MCM Celebrates International Day of Forests

Chandigarh 30^th March, 2022:-The Department of Botany, under the aegis of MCM Eco Club 'Parivesh', Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh celebrated International Day of Forests. Keeping in mind the theme of this year's International Day of Forests i.e. 'Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption', a documentary based on conservation of forests, and the reasons and prevention of forest fires was shown to the students. This was followed by a discussion session on the importance of forests for ensuring sustainability and survivability of the ecosystem. During the discussion, students deliberated  on the relevance of sustainable consumption for conservation of forests and how restoration and sustainable management of forests can help address climate change and biodiversity crisis. 

Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of Botany Department and Eco Club to raise awareness about forest sustainable management and their use of resources. She said that forests play a key role in combating climate change, and in contributing to the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations, and thus, efforts should be made to preserve them.
