To Have A Better Tomorrow, Empowerment of Girls Is Need of the Hour: CCPCR Chairperson

Chandigarh Jan.24, 2022:- To commemorate National Girl Child Day-2022, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) under the aegis of 'Girls India Project' has organized a special webinar with fifty (25 Government and 25 Private) schools of city beautiful-Chandigarh. Various individual and group activities are taken by respective groups named as 'Arunima Sinha', 'Mai Bhago', 'Kalpana Chawla', 'Marry Com',  Mother Teresa' under this project for the upliftment of girl students and were well represented by concerned group leaders. All the 50 schools presented their performance so far and declared the road map for the coming days. 

Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, Chandigarh highlighted that girls undoubtedly are an indispensable section of society. Girls have immense potential to excel in any area of life. So it becomes imperative to give them wings to fly high in the opportunities of the sky. Through Girls India Project, Chandigarh Commission For Protection Of Child Rights in collaboration with participating schools is tirelessly making sincere efforts towards the shaping and enlightening of girl students to help them in attaining new heights.

While speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Mrs. Pam Rajput, Professor (Emeritus), Center for Women's Studies & Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh appreciated the initiation of CCPCR and said that it's a commendable effort of Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) to organize a webinar to celebrate National Girl Child Day. By citing various international declarations and forums which are working on gender equality, she said that besides making efforts towards the empowerment of girls, it's also important to educate boys as well to change their stereotyped mindset. This can be started at the school level. She also told that during this Corona pandemic, cases of domestic violence, child abuse have increased, and also there is a rise in the dropout ratio of girl students. Therefore we all should take collaborative efforts to provide help to deprived and underprivileged girls.

As speakers, Ms. Neena Singh, Ex-President, Rotary Club, Chandigarh, and Ms. Vandana Aggarwal, Coordinator, The Helping Hands, Chandigarh shared their valuable view on the legal rights and other constitutional provisions which are meant for girls. The event was well coordinated by the team of St. Joseph's Sr. Sec School under the guidance of Ms. Monika Chawla, Principal of the said school. Mrs. Pooja Puncchi, Member, CCPCR extended a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries.

Kartar Singh, Legal Consultant, CCPCR, Chanchal Singh, RTE Consultant, CCPCR, Ms. Niti Mohan, Empanelled Consultant, Member, Child Welfare Committee, Mohali, Arvind K. Dhawan, Senior Assistant, CCPCR, Mrs. Ankita, POCSO Consultant, CCPCR and Shehkar, Clerk, CCPCR were also present during this event.
