Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Reiterated their Commitment for Strengthening and Making their Education System Future Ready at CII School Summit 2021

Chandigarh August 25, 2021:- Punjab and Himachal Pradesh reiterated their commitment for strengthening the education system as well as making their schools future ready at CII School Summit 2021 organized today on a virtual platform.

While addressing the delegates, Vijay Inder Singla, Education Minister of Punjab mentioned that his state has ranked number one in the country in the recently announced Performance Grading Index on School Education. He attributed this achievement to the timely and systematic measures implemented by the State Government viz. smart classroom policy, conducting teacher capacity building programmes and online teacher transfer policy amongst others. Vijay Inder Singla highlighted that in the coming days, Punjab will become the first State in the country to have 100% Smart Class Rooms.  

Addressing more than 300 delegates from across the country, Govind Singh Thakur, Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh mentioned that they have implemented the New Education Policy in September 2020 which lays particular emphasis on the development of creative potential of each individual. Govind Singh Thakur further shared a brief on 'Har Ghar Pathshala' programme launched last year by the Government of HP to ensure continuity of education during COVID-19 pandemic. In this age of Technology, where students are overloaded with information, Govind Singh Thakur emphasized that the role of teachers and parents has become all the more important to help the child understand which information is correct and which is fake. 

Dr Mahavir Singh, Additional Chief Secretary–Education, Government of Haryana mentioned that during the pandemic, Haryana has followed a 'Stay at Home, Study at Home and Bring School at Home Model'. Dr Singh further informed that the State has allocated Rs 7000 crores for providing tablets to students from Class 8th onwards with a view to ensure that their studies do not get hampered due to non availability of gazettes. 

Speaking on the occasion, Abhimanyu Munjal, Chairman, CII Northern Region & Jt. MD & CEO, Hero FinCorp Ltd emphasized on the huge gap that exists in the education ecosystem in North India and requested the State Governments to consider inviting reputed schools as well as off shore campuses of some world class universities to set their campuses in their respective States. 

In his welcome address, R C M Reddy, Summit Chairman, CII School Summit 2021 & MD & CEO, SchoolNet India Ltd highlighted the importance of remote learning and said that the online mode of education will continue to play a significant role even after schools are able to re-open post COVID-19 pandemic. He added that digitisation of education is the future and we have been making significant strides in that direction even before the pandemic struck. 

Anand Swamy, Country Head-Education, Microsoft India, in his key note address said that the democratization of education speaks directly with Microsoft's vision to provide inclusive education with a view to empower every student to achieve more. 

Setting the context of the discussions, Narayanan Ramaswamy, Partner & Head– Education Sector, KPMG said that Industry 4.0; National Education Policy, 2020 and the COVID-19 Pandemic marks the transformational factors in adopting blended mode of education. 

CII School Summit also had a Special Session with Anand Kumar, Founder, Super 30 in which Anand Kumar shared his thoughts on how he spots talent and nurture it to let it blossom.

The distinguished speakers at CII School Summit 2021 which was attended by over 500 delegates deliberated on various subjects related to school education viz. Road to Recovery Guided by NEP 2020 for building School Education in Post Pandemic Years; Path to Quality Relationship between Student and Teacher; Beyond Classrooms and Textbooks, to what extent can the Role of a Teacher extend, in order to truly ensure learning; Quality Education by adopting Best Practices: Role of Digital Technology; Bridging Learning Gaps-Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessments; and Deploying Innovative Disruptive Technologies for Classroom Transformation.
