MCM Celebrates Independence Day

Chandigarh August 16, 2021:- Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh celebrated 75th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and zeal. The NSS units and Character Building Committee of the college organised a national level Digital Poster Making Competition on 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' and a national level Poster Making Competition on 'Vision for Nation', respectively. Over 65 students from different schools and colleges of more than 9 different states and UTs of India including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh participated in the competition organised by NSS units. Through their entries, the participants expressed their views and thoughts about great Indian leaders, their role in the Indian freedom struggle and the recent role of frontier warriors amidst COVID-19. The winners were awarded cash prizes and e-certificates were provided to all the participants. The NSS volunteers also participated in the "Singing of the Rashtra Gaan" activity by uploading their videos of singing the National Anthem of India on rashtragaan.in portal. The competition organised by the Character Building Committee witnessed huge participation from across the country as 245 students sent in their entries. The entries showcased participants' inspiring ideas for the nation coupled with remarkable creativity. The prominent themes that reflected in the entries included technological advancements, sensitivity towards the issues of rich-poor gap, sustainable development and so on. The winners were awarded cash prizes.

Principal Dr Nisha Bhargava appreciated the activity for providing the young minds an opportunity to showcase their vision for the nation in such an innovative manner. She added that our ancestors have given us the gift of freedom after a long intense battle and thus, we should consciously work to safeguard it at all times. Reminding the youth of their responsibility as active drivers of the country's development, Dr. Bhargava urged them to work with highest commitment to take the country to greater heights.
