While addressing the Inaugural Session, Padma Vibhushan Dr R A Mashelkar National Research Professor and Former Director General Council of Scientific & Industrial Research said that the new meaning of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" should not be isolation behind the doors, it should be integration with the post COVID global supply chains and standing with confidence, by just not assembled in India, rather by inventing in India. Manufacturing sector should focus on 3D's – Decentralisation, Digitisation, Decarbonisation and 3T's –Talent, Technology and Trust, He further added.
In his remarks, Arun Kumar Jha, Director General, National Productivity Council, GoI said that he is very optimistic and world will be not be same in the post Covid situation, India will become one of the leading countries in coming years. India is self-sufficient in production of PPE kits, Masks, ventilators & testing kits and will soon start exporting also.
Moderating the Inaugural Session, Kishore Jayaraman, Conference Chairman and President, India & South Asia Rolls-Royce said that India has the talent, potential, ingenuity and digital ecosystem to recast the framework of manufacturing and build an "Atmanirbhar Bharat" with economic measures, we have an opportunity to catapult "Make in India.
Presenting the Theme of the Conference, Rajeev Singh, Partner and Leader, Automotive Deloitte India said that COVID-19 has bought three mega events all together - Health Pandemic, Economic Slowdown and Shift in Geo-Political Equations. For the last few years there was a huge thrust to grow the Manufacturing sector in India and we drove the Make in India campaign with a focus on innovative digital technologies and expansion of production drive going towards Bharat, India is slowly striving to be self-reliant and creating a new imperative for the future of manufacturing. We aspire to increase the share of manufacturing in our GDP from current 16% to 25%. This crisis now gives us an opportunity to drive Make in India campaign 2.0"
While addressing issues on manufacturing sector, Dr Suket Singhal, Group Chief Executive Officer, Secure Meters Pvt Ltd, "Sectors were 20-30% over capacity before the pandemic and now companies are going to reduce reliance on single source or country. We have to be competitive to survive and with the support of government, manufacturing sector would be able to export surplus goods.
Also present at the Inaugural Session, Sanjeev Sharma, CEO & Managing Director, ABB India Ltd said that the recent impetus by the government is right ambition for multi-national companies based in India to deepen local manufacturing for domestic demand and global supply markets, taking make in India to the next level of growth. It is also an optimal leverage available for the Indian government to encourage MNCs to integrate MSMEs with the global supply chain and bring more sophisticated technology in the country for a long-term global competence development.
The Conference was attended by more than 200 participants from Manufacturing and allied sectors.
