Chandigarh 20th August:- The Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee today paid homage to former Prime Minister 'Bharat Ratna' Late Rajiv Gandhi on his 74the birth anniversary. Dr. Ashok Tanwar, former M.P., President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee presided over the function.
Garlanding the photo of Late Rajiv Gandhi, Dr. Tanwar said that former PM Rajiv Gandhi laid down his life fighting against terrorism and secessionism During his Primeministership, Shri Rajiv Gandhi had taken very far-reaching decisions. To make the youth a participant in the politics of the country the age for voting was reduced from 21 to 18 years. To make the Panchayati Raj Institutions a backbone of the democracy in the real sense, he provided Constitutional protection to these bodies. Late Rajiv Gandhi had the idea that the representation in the Parliament and the Vidhan Sabhas was very marginal and the Panchayati Raj Institutions will make the participation in the governance of maximum number of people.
Dr. Ashok Tanwar said that the Digital India of which the BJP Government is boasting these days was actually started by Late Rajiv Gandhi.
The HPCC President said that on this auspicious day of the birthday of Late Rajiv Gandhi, we take the pledge to totally finish corruption, communalism and narrow-mindedness and our efforts will be to rise above the division on the basis of religion, caste and region and work for the all round development of the country.
Those who paid homage to Shri Rajiv Gandhi included Tarun Bhandari, Kuldeep Soni, Manveer Kaur Gill, Rajesh Kona, Dalbir Balmiki, Jagbir Jognakhera, Nisant Prabhakar, Sunil Saroha, Darshan Devinagar, Staff of PCC and a large number of Party workers.
