Election Observer Review Works Carried out Towards Voter Awareness Under SVEEP Program

Chandigarh 09th January:- In view of the assembly elections, to review the various works carried out towards voter awareness under SVEEP program for enhancing voter participation to use their constitutional right to cast vote on 4th Feb, a special meeting conducted by elections observer Sh. Sanjay Roy with district electoral officer cum Deputy Commissioner D. S. Mangat, Additional District Electoral officer Amandeep Kaur, and Nodal Officer SVEEP Dr. Nayan Bhullar along with members of Media Certification & Monitoring Committee, at District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar.

During this Sanjay Roy while appreciating the initiatives towards voter participation and awareness for using their constitutional right to cast vote, said that India is known as the biggest democracy in the world and to strengthen it voters should use their constitutional right to cast vote without any fear and greed because every single vote in a democracy have its own significance.

He said that awareness for vote casting among the every cadre of the society is the need of the hour. He said that 100% voter participation and casting should be the target of coming assembly elections. Then election observer conducted a meeting with BLOs of SAS Nagar and Kharar constituencies. He directed the BLOs to generate awareness for vote casting at grass route level. He said that to generate awareness booth assistance groups should be formed for each booth. He directed the BLOs to directly coordinate with the voters to ensure their participation to cast vote. Besides this he also said that BLOs will be specially rewarded for 100% polling at their booths. Election Observer visited the various polling booths and interacted with voters.  

District Electoral Officer cum Deputy Commissioner D.S. Mangat, apprised the election observer about the requisite arrangements being ensured towards assembly elections in all three constituencies of district namely SAS Nagar, Kharar and Darabassi and also explained in detail about the various activities being carried out to enhance voters participation and voters awareness to cast their votes carried out under SVEEP program. He explained that there are 6, 59,906 listed voters in the District  and approximate 797 polling booths have been established. He further informed that to ensure smooth conduction of assembly elections, a Call center and complaint monitoring control room has been established at District Administrative complex and anybody could lodge election related complaint at toll free number 1800-180-2051 and complaint could also be registered at whatsapp number 94788-94788. Besides this media certification and monitoring cell has been established at District Administrative complex. He said that participating candidate is required to obtain prior permission from the said committee before publishing any advertisement in print and electronic media.

Additional District Electoral officer Amandeep Kaur, Nodal Officer SVEEP Dr. Nayan Bhullar, Kewal Singh Rana Member MCMC, Assistant returning officer come SDM SAS Nagar Gurpreet Singh Thind, Tehsildar Kharar Gurminder Singh, Tehsildar Mohali Tarsem Mittal and Tehsildar Election Hardeep Singh along with other officials were present.
