Punjab Governor to Kick off Literati:The Chandigarh LitFest

Chandigarh 23rd November:- The Governor of Punjab  V.P. Singh Badnore shall inaugurate the fourth edition of the Chandigarh LitFest, Literati 2016 on Saturday, 26th of November in the sylvan surroundings of Sukhna Lake Club. David Lelliott, Deputy British High Commissioner shall also address the Literati at the inaugural.  Dr. Sumita Misra, Chairperson of the Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS), and the Festival Director revealed that the city has acquired a distinct place amongst the literary festivals held in the country today. CLS has given a fillip to the literary activities in the region through its regular interaction and motivation to budding authors. 

She informed that celebrated authors participating in CLS Literati this year include Amish Tripathi known as 'India's first literary popstar', thriller fiction maestro Ashwin Sanghi, former Pakistan Television producer Tarek Fatah, well-known journalist 'Powder Room' fame author Shefalee Vasudev, reputed psychiatrist, author and founder of Mind Body Clinic Shyam Bhat, prolific writer from Kashmir Chandra Kanta, Panjabi screenplay writer Jass Grewal, among others.  Literati 2016 also has a unique collaboration with Canada. Two of the famous authors from Canada would be part of Literati, including poet and playwright Norm Sacuta and novelist and award winning story writer Shauna Singh Baldwin. 

Author coordinator for Literati Ms Suparna Sarasvati Puri added that there is a special focus on creative writing and film making in Punjabi this year.  Punjabi film industry's noted writer Jass Grewal and star comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi would also be sharing their creative journey in Punjabi cinema. In the evening cultural presentation on Saturday is internationally recognised stand-up comedian, Radhika Vaz. 

Dr. Sumita Misra added that CLS has revolutionized the literary scene in the region by encouraging creative writing, and providing a platform for networking with some of the celebrated authors, through workshops, seminars, lectures, meet-the-author programmes, and of course, through annual signature event, Literati.
