Chandigarh 01st September:-The Department of Health & Family Welfare U.T., Chandigarh is conducting a Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) from 5th to 18th September 2016 in the targeted areas of the city to detect the hidden Leprosy cases and to spread awareness about the disease. In this regard, a meeting was held on 31.08.2016 under the chairmanship of Anurag Agarwal, Secretary Health Chandigarh. He emphasized that to eradicate Leprosy, people should come and reveal the disease rather than conceal it so that the treatment can be provided at the earliest. During the campaign, a house to house search activity will be carried out by trained field health workers. A population of around 7 lacs will be covered by 575 teams.
The purpose of the campaign is to look for patients having depigmented or hypo pigmented patches on the skin along with loss of sensations or deformity in hands or feet. The suspected patients will be referred to the respective Health centers and finally they will be validated by dermatologists. Any person having suspected leprosy lesions should voluntarily report to the Government Hospitals, where treatment is provided free of cost.
Dr. Vanita Gupta, Director Health Services, Dr. Amarjit Kaur, CMO (NFSG), Dr. Dinesh Dua, Chairman CII Chandigarh, Dr. Sushil Kumar Gupta, President Indian Medical Association, Saroj Mittal, Deputy Director School Education and Dr. Simrat Kaur, State Leprosy Officer Chandigarh were also present in the meeting.
