Subsidy Amounting to Rs.1 Crore 50 Lacs on Maize Seeds:Mangat

Chandigarh 02nd June:- Traditional crops of Punjab are now declining in terms of profitability resulting into maximum expenditure and low income. As such, farmers are being motivated for harvesting of profitable crops under Crop Diversification Program, wherein subsidy amounting to Rs. 1 crore 50 lacs will be provided to farmers on maize seed during this season. Explaining this Deputy Commissioner D.S.Mangat said that subsidy amounting to Rs. 8 lacs 40 thousands on 100 quintal maize seed stands provided, so far.

D.S.Mangat said that 22 thousand 500 acres maize seeding is targeted during this season and 1100 quintal subsidized maize seed at the rate of Rs. 84 per kg will be provided to farmers which will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of farmers. D.S.Mangat said that besides subsidized seed, pesticide at 50 percent subsidy will also be provided to farmers. He said that to ensure proper distribution of maize seeds, 13 centers have been established by Agriculture Department and very soon pesticide will be made available at these centers. He said that 7 different varieties of maize seed have been made available. Besides the seed of Agriculture University Ludhiana, the available variety includes seeds of Pioneer Seed, Lakshmi Seeds, Montaino, Rashi Seed, Prabhat Agro and Sri Ram Seed Company. He said that the centre thus established for providing subsidised seeds includes office of Block Agriculture Officer Kharar-1, Kharar-2, Daun Majra, Bhago Majra, Banur, Dera Bassi, Tasimbli, Amlala, Lalru, Kurali, Khijrabad, Palheri and Ratwara Sahib. He said that besides agriculture department, seed companies will also organised 14 village level camps at different locations in each block wherein knowledge about crop diversification and maize seeding will be provided to the farmers.

During this chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma & Statistics expert Chaman Lal said that all the requisite arrangements have been ensured for providing subsidized maize seed to the farmers from the centers established for the purpose.
