​​Social Awareness Necessary for Eradication of Drug Menace:Justice S.S. Saron

Chandigarh 27th May:- Drugs have become a big threat for the society. As such, social awareness is necessary for eradication of drugs and all should come together to contribute for making a healthier drugs free society. This was stated by Judge Punjab & Haryana High court-cum-chairman Punjab Legal Services Authority Chandigarh Justice S.S. Saron while addressing the seminar at Auditorium of Shivalik Public School Phase 6 after waiving the green flag to rally against Drug Menace from Dara Studio, organised by District Legal Services Authority in association with Civil & Police Administration. The rally against drug menace started form Dara Studio and routing from various places ended at Shivalik Public School Phase 6. During this Justice S.S. Saron, Justice Rameshwar Malik, Justice Surinder Gupta, Deputy Commissioner D.S.Mangat, SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Member Secretary Punjab Legal Services Authority G.S.Matharu, Additional Member Secretary Tejinder Bir Singh, L.R. Law Secretary Vivek Puri, District & Session Judge Archna Puri, Additional District & Session Judge Tarsem Mangla, Saru Mehta, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Monika Lamba along with officials of Judicial, Civil and Police Administration and school students participated in the rally.

Chairman District Legal Services Authority said that the authority provides free legal consultation and advice to the general public and on the other hand the authority has started efforts towards eradication of drugs and for creating awareness among general public regarding drug abuse. He said that such rallies are being organized in the entire state by District Legal services authorities in the respective districts, wherein awareness regarding drug abuse will be given to the public and participation of school students is being ensured to spread a message of drug eradication from the route. While addressing the media, he said that media could play a very productive and positive role for eradication f drugs from society by presenting drug awareness programs.

Addressing the seminar Judge Punjab & Haryana High-court Surinder Gupta said that although rumors about drugs states the drugs as Sixth River of Punjab, but we should not give any interest towards such rumors and should generate awareness among public regarding drug abuse and help in contributing a healthier drug free society. He further said that the matter about drug abuse needs proper consideration at every level of society. He said that Civil & Police Administration and social service organizations are doing extra efforts towards drugs eradication, as such, constructive approach with positive efforts from media are required. He said that with the help of youth, drug abuse could be controlled up to great extent.

Addressing the Seminar Deputy Commissioner D.S.Mangat said that information regarding drug abuse should be given to Police Administration. He said that Punjab Govt. has established Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation centre at Mohali, wherein drug victims are diagnosed free of cost.

During this SSP Gurpreet singh Bhullar said that some of the anti social elements and anti nation powers are playing very negative role for trapping the youth and indulging them in drugs. He said that campaign against drug menace initiated by district police has gained success at grass route level.
