PB.Education Minister Expresses Satisfaction over Good Showing in 10th Result

Chandigarh 24th May:- Expressing satisfaction over the 10th standard results declared today, Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema congratulated the meritorious students. In a press communiqué released here, he said that education department has made a giant leap towards quality education in the state, for which students, teachers and departmental officials deserve kudos. He said that the teachers and schools showing good results would get commendation certificates, while the schools with poor results would be identified and then an analysis would be done.

Dr. D.S. Cheema further said that this is the positive aspect of initiative of setting up of meritorious school and Dr. Hargobind Khurana Scholarship Scheme for meritorious schools by the Punjab Government that the number of students securing more than 80 per cent marks have increased manifold for the second consecutive year. He further informed that this year a total of 10,255 students of government schools alone have got 80 per cent of more marks, whereas in 2014, this number was 4700 and in 2015 this number stood at 8400. The Education Minister also divulged that one more positive aspect has been the increase of cut out list of merit to 96.18 per cent, which signifies quality education being imparted in the schools of the state. The total 355 students named in the merit list have secured marks ranging from 96.18 to 100 per cent. He also expressed satisfaction over the fact that this year, the pass percentage has increased to 72.25 per cent in comparison to 65.77 percent of last year, which is 7 per cent more.

He said that every year, anti-cheating campaign has been conducted with utmost effectiveness, which has yielded better results. He said that Education Department and Punjab School Education Board deserve accolades for taking steps to ensure quality education. Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that one another appreciable fact about these results is that girls and the students of rural areas have shown exceptional results. These results are a stamp of approval on the dynamic policies of the state government, which are formulated to ensure qualitative education. Divulging more, he said that the pass percentage of the girl students has been very good at 78.30 per cent, while those of the rural areas students have also remained appreciable at 72.66 per cent.

Expressing deep elation at the students securing 100 per cent marks, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that it is a matter of great pride for the state that these students have excelled in both academic and sports spheres, so they are an inspiration to the other students also.
