Autism is a lifelong development disorder that begins in early childhood and severely impacts in the child, the communication and social skills and interaction with other outer world. The spectrum of symptoms can range from relatively mild to very severe.

The origins of autism still remain a mystery but some in depth research provide deep insights into what could be the probable cause of Autism. This neuro developmental disorder can only be modified and managed through timely and early identification and appropriate early intervention. The earlier the children have access to care, services and treatment, the more likely they are to progress and attain their maximum potential,  Autistic children should be accommodated in the mainstream education system to give them a better learning environment and not segregate them in special schools, Dr Chhaya maintained.

Dr Sachin Kaushik said that latest global surveys suggest that 1 in every 68 children are being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (CDC 2014). The role of parents in understanding the spectrum of Autism and being an integral part of the interventions is very important.
