Chandigarh 18th March:- Rumjhum Chatterjee has become the first woman chairperson of the Confederation of Indian Industry Northern Regional Council for the year 2016-17. Sumant Sinha, a passionate advocate of solutions to climate change through business and public policy, has been elected Deputy-Chairman of CII NR. The new incumbents were elected at the first meeting of the new Regional Council members held in New Delhi on March 18.
Rumjhum Chatterjee is one of the co-founders of Feedback Infra Group and serves as the Group Managing Director- Human Capital Development (HCD) and is also the Chairperson of the Feedback Foundation Trust. CII Northern Region comprises eight states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
A postgraduate in Psychology from Calcutta University, Rumjhum is a leading practitioner of the management of human capital in the infrastructure sector. She has a deep interest in the subject of women's empowerment and serves as the Chairperson for the Jury of the Selection Committee for CII's Women Exemplar Award 2016. Rumjhum has represented the industry's views on the subject before Parliamentarians in India and also participated in a closed door interaction to discuss women's empowerment with Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Shinzo Abe, during his visit to India in January 2014.
She pioneered the practice of community led interventions for R&R post land acquisition for infrastructure projects. Her paper on 'Sustainable Rehabilitation Interventions through Community Engagement' was published in the India Infrastructure Report 2009, published by 3iNetwork. She is also a member of the Governing Board of HelpAge India and a Trustee of HDFC Schools.
Speaking on the occasion Rumjhum said that the driving force behind the much-propagated Entrepreneurship development and startups are the youth of the nation. India needs to have an improved strategic framework to effectively skill lakhs of people, in skills to help them achieve better careers and job prospects. She further said that with this our industries will be more competitive and give real teeth to the ambitions of Make in India, the Digital Literacy Mission and the dreams of a 100 Smart Cities. Mapping of the skill requirements must be done at the sectoral, district and trade level. Skill Development Hubs can also be created under the PPP mode near MSME clusters. Industry must set up skill labs in schools.
The new CII NR Deputy Chairman Sumant Sinha is the Founder Chairman and CEO of ReNew Power, currently India's largest clean energy company. Sumant is a passionate advocate for solutions to climate change through the intersection of business and public policy. He speaks extensively on global platforms and has authored more than 100 articles on subjects related to India's economic scenario, entrepreneurship and issues related to climate change in leading publications.
Currently, Sumant serves as the founder Chairman of the Indian Wind Energy Alliance (IWEA) and as Co-Chair, National Renewable Energy Committee of CII. He is also on the Advisory Board of Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). He is also on the Board of the Raj Center of Indian Economic Policy at Columbia University. He holds a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a Master's degree from SIPA, where he was a Dean's fellow. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a National Talent Scholar.
