Its traditional art in cotton, silk and other natural fibers is known for its aesthetics in usage of colours, motifs and weaves and have mesmerized people all over the world.

The"National Silk expo", which will be organised from 23rd March to 28th March 2016 at the Himachal Bhawan, Sector 28-B, Madhya Marg, Chandigarh., offers a huge collection of ethnic and designer wears. Be it a young kid, college goers, office goers or the elderly, the event has something for every age group. The works of over 100 weavers and artisans are showcased at the expo.
The Organizer of National Silk Expo, Jayesh Kumar Gupta said that through this event, effort is being made to empower the weavers economically by creating a platform for them to market their products directly to customer. It is our attempt to make customers aware of trends and provide them authentic handloom silks and cottons at the best possible price.
Jayesh Kumar Gupta further said that the artisan from all over India of the Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti have come to City Beautiful to exhibit their ethnic weaves and traditional pure silk & cotton products in order to start of the festive season, with the theme, " National Silk expo". He added that weavers who specialize in silk and cotton weaving are displaying their popular works such as Banarasi brocades, Chanderi, Maheshwari of Madhya Pradesh, Pochampalli, Gadwal, Dharmawaram, Uppada, Narayanpet of Andhra Pradesh, Sambalpuri and Bomkai of Orissa, Patola of Gujarat, Paithani of Maharashtra, Baluchari of West Bengal, the Kota Doria, Bandhej and Bagru of Rajasthan, the Tussar of Bihar, Kosa of Chhattisgarh, the kanjiwaram, Coimbatore cottons of Tamil Nadu, fulkari work suit from Punjab and the Crepe printed silks of Karnataka, to name a few.
In other words, the signature contemporary styling by the weavers, who are showcasing their work, have given the ethnic India apparels a modern twist. Apart from luxury fabrics, intricate embroideries and stunning colours, the expo features sheer fabrics, which indeed is a compelling reason for shopaholics to visit the expo and grab an item or two.
