All the Villages of District Will Get ODF Status by March 2017:Pandher

Chandigarh 21st March:- 60 villages of the district have achieved ODF Status which resulted in to curtailment of practice of open defecation by the villagers. Besides this, by the MArch 2017 all villages in the district will be having ODF Status and 100% availability of safe drinking water facility to each and every household will be ensured. Disclosing this Executive Engineer Water Supply & Sanitation Department Sukhminder Singh Pandher said that provision of Rs. 1 crore 12 lacs 50 thousands have been made for constructing 750 toilets in the villages under Swacch Bharat Mission.

Sukhminder Singh Pandher said that the work for construction of toilets in 125 villages of the district is under progress. He said that beneficiaries get financial assistance of Rs. 15 thousand for construction of toilets. He said that toilets are being constructed in the villages under Swacch Bharat Mission which are being monitored by village level Water Supply & Sanitation Committees. Sukhminder Singh Pandher said that SAS Nagar is the first district having safe drinking water supply & private water connections for each household. He said that by the March 2017, 100% target for providing safe drinking water to each and every household will be achieved.

Sukhminder Singh Pandher said that filed staff including Tubewell Operator, Fitter, Fitter Helper, Watchmen etc. deputed after proper training by DWSS in Kharar & Dera Bassi Block has been directed to generate awareness among general public regarding use of toilets, necessity & benefits of hygiene and to curtail the practice of open defecation. Besides this, they have also been directed to generate awareness about efficient utilisation of water being supplied form water works and not using Tullu Pumps which interfere with the continuous water supply in the village. Also staffs have been deputed to conduct surprise checking in the village for compliance of above points and assurance of continuous water supply in the village.
