Chandigarh 21st January:- In view of the recent case of theft of heritage furniture at College of Art, Sector 10-C, Chandigarh on 18th & 19th January 2016, the Chandigarh Administration has taken some necessary actions. The matter has been reviewed and directions have been given to Police authorities for speedy investigations as the miscreants are targeting items of Corbusier legacy. The FIR was lodged in the PS-3, Chandigarh and the SSP, Chandigarh has been requested to provide police security to the Government College of Art round the clock for the safety of heritage items.
College authorities have been directed to take immediate stock of the inventoried material to ascertain the loss and take appropriate remedial steps so that such incidents do not occur in future. To mobilize the efforts for protecting, conserving and preserving Chandigarh's Heritage furniture items as inventoried by various Departments, the Adviser to the Administrator has constituted "Heritage Items Protection Cell" which shall work under the overall supervision of the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee.
The Chief Architect, UT, Kapil Setia has been nominated as the Chairman of this cell in which Sumit Kaur, former Chief Architect, Ajay Jagga, Advocate and Activist, Director Alliance Francaise have been chosen as members. Besides these members, the Chief Engineering UT & Municipal Corporation, Director Museum, Director Le Corbusier Centre, Director Culture, SSP Chandigarh Police etc, shall also be a part of this Cell. The Cell shall formulate methodology for protection and conservation of the heritage furniture items.
