153rd Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda:Blood Donation Camp at UT Secretariat

Chandigarh 12th January:- On the occasion of the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda being observed as the Nation Youth Day across the country, the State NSS Cell, Education Department of UT Administration in association with ICICI Bank organized a Blood Donation Camp at UT Secretariat, Sector 9 here on Tuesday.

A team of doctors from the Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGI collected the blood. Over 250 donors registered to donate blood and of these 162 have donated blood. The highlight of the camp was women who outnumbered men. The others who could not donate were advised to donate blood in summer. The donors were given certificated and badges.

The camp was inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the administrator Chandigarh (UT). On the occasion, the State NSS Cell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Shapers Chandigarh. The Global Shapers have created a mobile application named BloodDonor.me (available on both android and iOS) to match the people in emergency with the blood donors in the city on the mobile.

The team from Global Shapers led by Munish Jauhar gave a live demonstration of the app before the advisor who directed the Director Higher Education, Rubinderjit Singh Brar to put the same on the website of Chandigarh Administration soon. The advisor appreciated the efforts of the Education Department.

The State cell has come forward to spread the usage of the mobile application in the entire city through the platform of NSS. It is pertinent that NSS has over 16,000 volunteers in various school and colleges in the city who engage in various activities for the benefit of the society.

Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer, NSS said that the camp would be a regular feature and NSS cell would continue to organize such camps in future also. The DGHE, Rubeinderjit Singh thanked all the programme officers of NSS for their efforts for the success of the camp.
