By 121 News

Chandigarh 25th December:- After deciding to fight for the drought and famine struck 11 states in the Supreme Court ,Swaraj Abhiyan has decided to fight the case of cotton farmers of punjab whose crops were destroyed by the white fleas in courts .Professor Manjit Singh Supreme Court lawyer and Swaraj Abhiyan National leader Parshant Bhushan will meet the affected farmers and hold a legal camp at "Teachers home" in Bathinda on 27th December at 10 am in this regard. He will fight this case like innumerable other such cases free of cost. He will also be joined by Patiala MP,Dr Dharamvira Gandhi at the public hearing .

Acc to Prof. Manjit Singh different teams of Swaraj abhiyan under the leadership of Gian  Chand ,Hartej Mehta ,Rajinder Singh Benipal ,Gurbaksh Singh Barnala and Krishan Yadav are visiting and coordinating with Farmer unions, Sarpanches and Panches as well as farmers of different villages of the cotton belt .He also said that Swaraj Abhiyan in the last few months had visited 11  states in India which were drought affected and which were struck with famine like conditions. Swaraj Abhiyan after a detailed  survey of these 11 states had submitted memorandums to these states demanding  immediate steps for the distressed .However in the wake of inaction by these states ,renowned Supreme Court lawyer Parshant Bhushan who is well known for his Public interest litigations and uncovering big ticket corruption scandals knocked on the doors of Supreme Court on behalf of these drought affected Farmers .Last week Supreme Court sent a notice to the Central government in this regard. Now he will fight a case on behalf of the cotton farmers of Punjab and demand compensation for the over Rs. 40,000 Per Acre loss to cotton farmers of the state and institute a case of criminal negligence against the nexus of agriculture minister, corrupt officials and corporate houses .

He held the anti farmer policies and widespread corruption in the government machinery responsible for the white fly induced destruction of cotton crop on the state. More than 100 farmers have committed suicide since August and it has become a daily occurrence now .This need to be stopped .This was not a natural disaster but a result of fake and spurious pesticides sold by the connivance of unscrupulous government officials, politicians and corporates. He said that the Chief minister had himself admitted that there was gross negligence in the purchase of pesticides by the government .If this was the case than why should the farmers suffer due to government negligence and not the concerned minister, government officials and the company's selling those pesticides.

They said that the poor farmers can only agitate for their rights which the government was hell bent to suppress with a heavy hand but not the prolonged and costly legal fight .

He said that the political-official nexus bypassed all laws and procedures and used 33 crore government subsidy to do business with one company without inviting any tender and provided fake pesticides to the farmers. He asked that when all seed, fertiliser and pesticide licenses are provided by the government and fully regulated by it ,than who is responsible for the open sale of spurious pesticides, fertilisers and seeds in the state ?it is these very government agencies recommending  these seeds and pesticides who are responsible for this disaster. Government itself has sold these pesticides and as such both the government and pesticide companies are responsible both as service providers as well as sellers of spurious stuff .
