Nominated Councillors Numbers Should Be Increased:Kamaljit Singh Panchhi

Chandigarh 28th December:- Kamaljit Singh Panchhi President Chandigarh Traders Association & Advisor Chandigarh Beopar Mandal in a statement stated that civic body was formed by Government of India in the year 1994. There is a provision of nominated councillors  in the Act at the time of formation of civic body who are experts in the fields and give their advice on the working of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh run by the Mayor and elected councillors and they had been doing this job successfully.

Kamaljit Singh Panchhi said that nominated councillors must be retained and also referred that out of nine nominated councillors, two are from Traders Body of city and traders feel proud. He is in favour of voting rights to the nominate councillors.

Kamaljit Singh Panchhi further said that there is a move to increase elected councillors from 26 to 33 by the Chandigarh Administration and the same is welcomed. Nominated councillor's numbers should also be increased.

He urged to the Administrator Chandigarh to increase the numbers of nominated councillors from nine. Because Chandigarh is a Planned and Modern city hence the increase in the nominated councillors would be very useful for the city.
