Chandigarh 02nd December:- The World AIDS Day was celebrated at National Institute of Nursing Education, PGI, Chandigarh. On this occasion a symposium on HIV/AIDS was organized under the banner Trained Nurses Association of India, UT, Branch, Chandigarh. One hundred and fifty trained nurses from PGI, Sec- 12, and GMCH, Sec- 32, Chandigarh, including students, participated in the symposium. Dr Sandhya Ghai, President, TNAI, UT Branch, Chandigarh, & Principal, NINE, acquainted the participants about the revival of Trained Nurses Association of India, UT Branch Chandigarh which was dormant for last many years. Further, she delivered the inaugural address highlighting the role of nurses in spreading awareness about prevention of HIV/AIDS. Dr Sukhpal Kaur, elaborated the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS. Dr Avinash Rana explained the various preventive measures of HIV/AIDS. Dr Sunita Sharma talked about the significance of counseling to the patients suffering with HIV/AIDS. The lecture on prevention of needle stick injury was construed by Ms Neena Vir Singh. The program ended with distribution of certificates.
NSS unit and Red Ribbon club of NINE PGIMER also organized public awareness campaign under the supervision of Mrs Meenakshi Agnihotri and Dr. Sukhjit Kaur, Programme Officer, NSS, and Red Ribbon Club Incharge of NINE, PGI, Chandigarh, at village Sarangpur (UT) through posters, health talk, and nukkar natak on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the presence of Sh Subhash Chand, NSS Regional Director, Chandigarh, Sh Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer and S. Sadhu Singh, Sarpanch of the village. In the evening a poster making competition was organized on prevention and control of HIV /AIDS in the college campus . A candle March was organized in and around college and PGI campus. Dr Sandhya Ghai, Principal, NINE flagged off the Candle March. The program ended with refreshments to the NSS volunteers.
