Air India Commences Domestic Operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

Chandigarh 06th October:- National carrier Air India, has commenced its domestic operations from Terminal 2 (T2), Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Sahar, Mumbai effective 1st October 2015. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India along with Mark Schwab, CEO, Star Alliance were present for the ceremonial ribbon cutting and cake cutting to mark the occasion.  With this move, Air India passengers will have the advantage of a smooth and seamless transition with easy connectivity, between domestic and international sectors, all from the same terminal. With this development Air India can operate Mumbai as its second hub in the region.

Ashwani Lohani, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India commented that today is an important day for us at Air India and more so for our operations here in Mumbai. We have moved our entire operations under one roof, which is a much more efficient way of handling transfers and provide the best experience to our passengers. It is a great beginning for us at the new terminal and our people are charged up and excited. We will look to make Mumbai a second hub for Air India.

Mark Schwab, CEO Star Alliance said that with commencement of domestic operations here at Mumbai Terminal 2, Air India has taken the next step in the evolution of its Star Alliance membership. At present we have 11 member carriers connecting Mumbai with 20 international destinations in 14 countries. Our customers can now enjoy a simpler, smoother and faster transfer experience, when they connect to and from any of Air India's 30 domestic destinations served from Mumbai.

Air India passengers of the first flight (AI 627 Mumbai to Nagpur) were welcomed very warmly by the much loved Maharajah and were offered roses and chocolates by the Air India staff dressed in traditional attire, while passengers on AI 695 (Hyderabad to Mumbai) were also in for a pleasant surprise on the ceremonial welcome on their flight arrival at Terminal 2 (T2).

Air India operates 63 flights out of Mumbai of which 52 are to domestic destinations. There were twelve flights that operated at the time of the ceremony and all of the flights were ahead of schedule due to the efficiency of the operations displayed by Air India.
