Chandigarh 21st August:- The Department of Health & Family Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh & World Health Organization jointly organized a workshop on Introduction of Inactive Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV)in TAJ Hotel Chandigarh.
Anurag Agarwal, Secretary Health U.T. was the chief guest of the workshop. Speaking at the inaugural session, he appreciated the efforts done by the Ministry of health and family welfare& World Health Organization in polio eradication.
Dr. P.K. Roy-Regional Team Leader-WCO, Dr. Shivani-SMO-WHO & Dr. Anu Chopra Dosajh-DIO gave presentation on IPV introduction IPV consists of inactivated (Killed) poliovirus strains of all three types (poliovirus types 1,2, and 3).IPV is given intramuscularly and needs to be administered by a trained health worker. As IPV is not a live vaccine, it carries no risk of Vaccine Associated Paralytic Polio and Vaccine Derived Paralytic Polio. It is one of the safest vaccines in use.
Dr. V.K. Gagneja, Director Health & Family Welfare, U.T, Dr. Vandana Gupta-Medical Suprintendent-GMSH-16, Dr. G. Dewan-Deputy Medical Suprintendent-GMSH-16, Dr.ManjuBehl, Programme Officer-RCH, Dr. Sangeeta Ajay-Nodal Officer-NHM and various officers/officials from PGIMER,GMCH-32 alongwithMedical officers of Health Department were also present in the workshop.
