Crime Branch Arrest 02 Accused Persons of Auto Lifting Gang

Chandigarh 03rd August:-Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police achieved a major success by arresting 02 accused who were involved in Auto lifting in the tri-city. Both were identified as Manoj Kumar of Distt-Muradabad, UP, age about 32 years and Mukesh Kumar of Distt-Sambhal, UP, age about 25 yrs.

Giving brief detail about the auto lifters DSP Crime Branch Jagbir Singh said that acting-upon the secret information, on 27th of July, a team of Crime Branch manned a trap near Booth Market Parking, Sector-15, Chandigarh and succeeded in arresting accused namely Manoj Kumar and Mukesh Kumar alongwith a stolen Motor Cycle having registration number PB-70-B-2567, colour blue black, make Bajaj Discover which was stolen vide FIR No. 218 dated 27.04.2015 u/s 379, 411 IPC, PS-MM, Chandigarh. During the course of investigation, they have disclosed that they have stolen number of cars and two wheelers from Chandigarh. Both the accused were produced in the court on 28th of July and obtained 04 days police remand. During the interrogation, both the accused disclosed that they used to steal vehicles from tricity and sell the vehicles to one scrap dealer namely Mohd Arif s/o Mohd Wahid Pahlwan r/o Chandosi Babrala road near Islam Nagar Chowk Bahjoi, Distt-Sambhal, UP. A Police party headed by SI Ashok Kumar was sent to Bahjoi, Distt-Sambhal, UP alongwith both accused. Mohd Arif was not found present at his residence-cum-shop, the team searched him nearby places and areas and returned Chadnigarh after informing the local police. Arrest warrant of the accused Mohd Arif got obtained from the Hon'ble Distt Court, Sector-43, Chandigarh.

DSP Jagbir Singh said that during the course of investigation, 13 stolen two wheelers were recovered on their disclosure which led to solving of 10 cases of auto theft registered with different police station of the city. Out of these, 03 two wheelers have also been taken into police possession u/s 102 Cr.P.C.  Efforts are being made to ascertain from where these 03 two wheelers were stolen. The accused further disclosed that they have also stolen three cars from Chandigarh, in this regard, a team of Crime Branch has already been despatched to Bahjoi, UP to arrest the receiver of the cars and the recovery of the stolen cars. Accused Manoj Kumar is also a Proclaimed Offender in case FIR No. 510 dated 27.11.2010 u/s 379,411,473 IPC, PS-39, Chandigarh.  

He said that both the accused are unemployed. Accused Manoj Kumar is having past criminal record and more than three dozen cases were registered against him in the different states i.e. Chandigarh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh etc. The modus-operandi of these accused is that they used to steal two wheelers and after raccie on the stolen bikes, they select the soft target of cars and then steal the same during the night hours. They took the stolen cars to Bahjoi in UP and sold them to the scrap dealer. After committing the crime, they used to leave the some of the stolen two wheelers in the different parking lots of Chandigarh and other cities and took some of them to the UP for the sale. They also search new customers for the sale of stolen two wheelers in area of UP and dispose-off the parked vehicles time to time. They used to sell the stolen cars and motorcycles to the scrap dealer namely Mohd Arif.

Both the accused were again produced in the court on 01st of August, 2015 and obtained 04 days more police remand. Further investigation is in progress.
