CII Edu Summit to Focus on Partnerships,Capacity Building in North

Chandigarh 03rd August:- In order to strengthen partnerships and collaboration between universities, industry, centre and state governments all across north, to drive capacity building and innovations, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in partnership with Indian School of Business and Govt of Haryana is organising the Edu Summit 2015 themed as 'Moving towards Knowledge based Economy - Basic Imperatives and Agenda for Reforms' on 5th August 2015 at ISB Campus, Mohali. Set to be inaugurated by H.E Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor, Haryana, Punjab & Administrator, UT Chandigarh on Wednesday, CII Edu Summit would strive to strengthen collaboration amongst all keys stakeholders and universities of north and their involvement in socio-economic development, beyond just traditional missions of teaching and research, as it is critical to ensure sustained economic growth in real sense in north India.

CII Edu Summit would dwell on how to identify the critical sectors of industry for skill development, identification of sociological aspects involved in cultivating desired professionals, how northern industry can support in building research centres for some of the key sectors in the region, who would govern and serve in these centres, the kind of reforms needed for it, how can industry align its CSR activities beyond community development projects to large scale socio-economic development projects and how to strengthen and leverage Industry institute partnerships further.

 Sunil K Munjal, Chairman, CII Edu Summit 2015 & Chairman, Hero Corporate Service Ltd said that private sector is the key connector that develops and leverages new knowledge for the benefit of society at large. Hence, the institutional arrangement for a knowledge economy would encompass centres of excellence such as academic institutions as well as industry for generating knowledge. Skill development has been the continued focus of the government. The institutional framework for the National Skill Development Mission has been approved in keeping with the commitment made during the Budget Speech for 2015-16. This will provide a strong framework for implementation of skilling activities in the country.

Vijay K Thadani, Chairman, CII National Committee on Higher Education & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, NIIT Ltd said that the growth of the knowledge economy has gained momentum with rapid globalisation of ideas and acceleration of technological advancement. To accelerate growth and development, India must initiate strong policies to build R&D capability, invest in human resource development, align education systems with sectoral needs and tap investments from the private sector, with the Government playing a critical role as a catalyst. As a step in this direction, India's first integrated National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015 has been approved, which aims to promote industry engagement and apprenticeship.

Amarbir Singh, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council CII said that envisions acceleration of India's journey to a knowledge-driven economy by effectively realising economic benefits in terms of value-added manufacturing, high technology exports and ownership of critical technologies from investments made in the knowledge ecosystem through public-private partnerships and stronger industry-institute collaborations. Achieving this vision would require a strong commitment from industry in partnership with Government and academia.

 Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII Northern Region said that CII strongly believes that the country cannot achieve the universalization of education without the efforts of the private sector. For India to become a world knowledge hub, the entire education system in the country has to become sound and robust by achieving excellence and integration at all levels. This will transform millions of young people from across the world into educated global citizens, in years to come.
