Chandigarh 23rd July:- Amardeep Singh Rai, an IPS officer who is presently IGP (Vigilance), Punjab, gave a talk to Civil Services aspirants of Guruji's Kripa SNM IAS Academy, Sec 37, Chandigarh. The IPS officer conveyed to his audience the appropriate way to prepare for the Civil Services examination and he also highlighted the pitfalls to be avoided during preparation.
In his Preparation methodology advice, he said choosing the subject should be done early. Once the subject is selected then the individual should go whole hog and burn the midnight oil in preparing. He cautioned that it is an integrated kind of exam. He gave his frank views on the short comings of the Civil Services at present and provided a remedy for the future. He was not against lateral induction of experts in to the services since a civil servant cannot be an expert in all matters. His view on quantum of power of the bureaucrat was that it would be healthy if power is dispersed at various levels as this would decrease the gap between the Civil Servant & the public. In this regard he sketched out civil service models of other countries including USA.
Manmeet Thapar, Director, SNM IAS Academy said that we keep inviting senior serving Civil Servants to deliver talks to students as they learn from the horse's mouth about the Civil Services. Mr. Rai's lecture was part of this initiative. Potential and aspiring candidates for the civil services had much to take away from the talk for their preparation for this difficult but elite examination.
