Chandigarh 23rd July:- In an initiative to place India firmly in the international endurance cycling circuit and to provide finest medical backup to the cycling enthusiasts, Fortis Hospital, Mohali has partnered with the second edition of Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship. Manali-Khardungla, is one of the highest highways in the world and popular amongst cyclists across boundaries. Race Director Anil Uchil, Race Organizer, Gaurav Schimar, 3- time Nepal Women MTB National Champion Laxmi Magar, three cyclists from Mumbai-Rishi, Tanmay Mishra and Kaeva Savla, race Marshals and some riders from Armed forces interacted with doctors and staff at Fortis Mohali today.

Dr.Vikas Bhutani, Additional director-Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said that cycling is an excellent way to stay fit and keep several diseases at bay. For the participants of this exciting championship, the event will be one of the biggest tests of physical and mental endurance. Medically, the key would be to keep a check on the participants' vital parameters, ensure they hydrate themselves well and not ignore any 'niggling' concerns.

The second edition of the championship which will be flagged off from Manali on July 26th, 2015 will culminate at Khardungla on August 3rd, 2015. The cyclists are set to pedal over 500 km during the 10 days, racing on the world's highest highway that is rugged, rustic and majestic at the same time. The participation has been divided in two categories with varying levels of difficulty to suit a cyclist's skill set. Apart from participation of American racer couple- Angela and Douglas Aldrich, what is highly encouraging this year is the presence of six women riders.
Gaurav Schimar, Founder, Northern Escapes said that the Manali-Khardungla route offers the most potent cocktail of surreal and dramatically ever –changing landscapes, high-thrills and a challenge that every rider dreams of coming face to face one day. MKCC is the only race on the World's Highest Road that further adds the sporting edge in a well- designed and safe format.
Anil Uchil, Race Director and Founder, Cycling 4 Change said that MKCC offers its riders one of the most scenic routes and seriously challenging terrains (the highest motorable roads in the world!) on which to test themselves, their endurance and their cycling skills. In addition to a memorable ride and a comfortable environment, we place a high emphasis on providing our riders with the best medical facilities to ensure a safe riding experience. Fortis Hospital, Mohali coming on board as our Medical Partner is a strategic step in ensuring this.

Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, Fortis Mohali, said that india is far from being a fit nation and the focus still largely remains on disease management. We want to change that and encourage people to stay healthy, thereby increase awareness for preventive healthcare in India. We wish the participants and organizers of Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship all the best and hope they can inspire many people to lead a healthy lifestyle. I am confident that our team that will accompany the cyclists through the treacherous terrain will ensure that they remain at the peak during the entire event.
