Chandigarh 13th July:- As many as 500 people attended a free mega cardiac health check-up camp at DAV School, New Shimla today . The camp was organized by Max Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH), Mohali and Sector 4 Residents Welfare Society New Shimla. A team of Sr Cardiac Surgeons along with Dieticians and Physiotherapists led by Dr. Deepak Puri, Director- Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, MSSH consulted the people during camp. At camp, free consultations and checkups like bp, blood sugar, ECG and lipid profile were provided besides distribution of free medicines by MSSH staff.

Dr. Amarpal Singh Kochhar, General Secretary of Society said that the main purpose of camp was to bring awareness on heart ailments besides providing them prevention and treatment tips for healthy life.

Sandeep Dogra, VP-Operations said that MSSH was committed towards making specialized healthcare services accessible to all sections of society. Through camp, our endeavour was to address the health concerns of the people who were often neglected due to distance from a good healthcare facility or monetary constraints. In line with the Max Group philosophy of 'Seva-bhav', we have taken up the initiative to provide free consultation and medicines to the people .

Dr Deepak Puri said that it was a matter of great concern that heart diseases were on the rise even in hill state like Himachal despite being   blessed with tremendous natural beauty and clean environment . The factors responsible for this were sedentary lifestyle, increasing levels of stress, faulty dietary habits and lack of proper night sleep. Talking about magnitude of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in youth, Dr Puri informed that CAD was the most common heart ailment which affected Indian population at relatively younger age compared to western population. WHO has already predicted that India would be the CAD capital of the world by 2020. He asserted that we were heading towards heart and lifestyle diseases epidemic to which our present health services would not be able to tackle.
