Major NCDs are Cancer, Cardiovascular disease, Chronic Respiratory diseases and Diabetes. With the objective of spreading awareness on these diseases and to create a healthier workforce, CII Chandigarh Council and DRFHE have launched this initiative for CII member companies. Awareness Sessions will be conducted by the renowned Doctors covering diseases like Hepatitis, Diabetes, osteoporosis, Heart Diseases, Cancer Awareness, Obesity and its risk factors, Thyroid related disorders, Kidney awareness, Gastrointestinal disorders and Ergonomics, etc.

Speaking at the Launch Session focussing on Heart Diseases at JREW Engineering Limited, Mohali, Dr Ankur Ahuja, MBBS, MD, DM (Cardiology), Ivy Hospital, Mohali shared that heart Disease is often avoidable. Following a heart-healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be complicated and it doesn't mean you need to live a life of self – deprivation. Instead find ways to incorporate heart-healthy habits into your lifestyle and you may enjoy a healthier life for years to come. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a disease in which a plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries. These arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle and if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle is reduced or blocked a heart attack can occur. The build-up of plaque occurs over many years. Chances of high blood pressure are greater if you are overweight or obese so controlling your BP is very crucial to avoid heart diseases. Right Body Mass Index (BMI) is very important as when your BMI rises, so does your risk of Coronary heart diseases.

Stressing on a healthy diet, Dr Ahuja mentioned that it includes a variety of vegetables and fruits which include whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy products, and protein foods, such as lean meats, poultry without skin, seafood, processed soy products, nuts, seeds, and beans and peas can be included.  He also stressed on the need of physical exercises like cycling, brisk walk and running in today's time as there is very less time one can give himself due his professional and personal commitments.

Rohit Grover, Convenor, CII Chandigarh Membership & Leadership Development Taskforce & Director- Commercial, JREW Engineering Limited said that it is very important for an employer to look at the health issues of his employees and to create a healthy environment at work place.
