MCM organize an interactive session on ‘Prevention of Crime against Women’

Chandigarh 19th February:- MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized an interactive session on 'Prevention of Crime against Women' in collaboration with Chandigarh police. Various dignitaries from the police Department were present at the occasion. The session began with the demonstration of newly launched women safety application Smart 24X 7 by Bhupinder Saini, the brain behind this app which was followed by an awareness session regarding iclik, an innovative complaints logging mechanism, by Ms. Urjvala Goel, ASP, Chanigarh Police. Inspector Harjeet Kaur deliberated upon crimes against women and their prevention and familiarized the students with their rights as women.

An invigorating interactive session then followed with Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP, Chandigarh Police, Sukhchain Singh Gill praised the enthusiasm of MCM girls and said, "Women are storehouses of compassion, mutual tolerance and sacrifice. If somebody tells you that you are weak, don't believe it." He also answered various queries of the students. Samidha Yadav, a student of BA 2nd year enquired about the steps being taken to ensure the well being of under-privileged women to which Sh. Gill replied, " Chandigarh Police is working in collaboration with various NGOs that work for women and also we have mobile police station that patrol underprivileged areas regularly." He also stated, "You are your own witness. Don't fear reporting a crime just because you don't have a witness", while answering another query regarding the hassle of providing a witness while lodging complaint. He urged the girls to do their part in making Chandigarh the safest city for women in india

Applauding the endeavour, Dr Puneet Bedi, the Principal of college said that such diligent platforms are need of the hour in wake of rising crimes against women. She encouraged the girls to report any untoward incident and motivated them to turn the equation from 'our trouble, his pleasure to his trouble, our pleasure' by making the criminals accountable for their misdeeds.
