OIL & GAS CONSERVATION FORTNIGHT KICKS OFF WITH PLEDGE & FLAGGING OFF OF PUBLICITY VAN

Chandigarh 17th January:- With non renewable sources of energy depleting fast an inaugural function of Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF – 2015) was organized at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to generate awareness among the masses about the urgency of conserving petroleum products. Vijay Kumar Dev (IAS), Advisor to Administrator to UT was the chief guest and Mohammed Shayin (IAS) DC was the Guest of Honor at the function. The theme of OGCF-2015 which will be held till 31st Jan 2015 will be 'INDHAN BACHAO JAN DHAN BADHAO'.

In his welcome address Krishan Kumar Handa State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry) U.T. Chandigarh & Senior Regional Manager (HPCL) brought out the importance of Conservation of Oil & Gas and highlighted the activities to be undertaken during OGCF – 2015 and the need to carry forward the same in daily life. 

The Chief Guest Vijay Kumar Dev highlighted the activities undertaken and carried out by all concerned starting from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, PCRA, PSU oil companies, Administrative offices, Transporters, Educational institutions, students, children and media towards the National cause of conservation of petroleum products. He also expressed the need of conservation, as the nation was dependent upon imports for its major requirement of crude oil at enormous quantity of foreign exchange. In the end, he appreciated the efforts of the oil & gas industry in spreading the message of conserving petroleum products.

ED-Retail (HPCL) S Jeyakrishnan emphasized the need of Oil & Gas conservation and described efforts and initiatives being taken by Public Sector Oil companies and PCRA across the country. He also emphasized that all efforts need to be made to make the activities under OGCF-2015 more effective.

Mohammed Shayin shared OGCF activities carried out in UT Chandigarh in last few years and urged residents of Chandigarh to keep Chandigarh in forefront of Oil & Gas Conservation. He highlighted the need to conserve natural resources to ensure a better future for the future generations

More than 500 students from various schools/colleges and industry members participated in the function and won prizes/gifts in quiz conducted during the event. The function concluded by taking pledge for conserving oil & gas in our day to day lives. An Oil and Gas Conservation Publicity Van was also flagged off, which will be used to spread awareness about quality & quantity of fuel as well as in making the public sensitive towards safeguarding fossil fuels.
