MC Organize workshop on “Hamara Jal-Hamara Jeevan”

Chandigarh 16th January:- A workshop on "Hamara Jal-Hamara Jeevan"for water conservation for sustainable development has been organized by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in association with Central Water Commission and PEC at PEC University of technology, sector 12, here today. The workshop was inaugurated by lighting of lamp in the morning by city Mayor Smt. Poonam Sharma accompanied by Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Deputy Mayor, Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, MC and other dignitaries. Near about 60 delegates from various fields participates in this workshop.

While addressing the delegates, Mayor expressed gratitude to all the participants and said that it is the high time that we preserve potable water, this natural resource to sustain life on this earth planet. She said that our moto should be "Save Water, Save life". Every drop of water is precious. Hence it is the need of the hour that we conserve water wisely and judiciously by drawing out the current scenario in Chandigarh area where the groundwater from aquifer is drying up to a critical level. She said that various water conservation stratagies should be adopted in natural lakes such as Sukhna lake, Patiala ki Rao, small ponds & lakes in villages.

She stressed upon the need to decrease the leakages in water supply pipelines in the city and wherever required new water supply pipes be replaced. She said that proper survey should be done where the average water bills are supplied bills will be issued on regular meter reading to avoid the water wastage. She said that a special house meeting would be convened regarding framing of policy for water supply and to save water in the next month.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss the importance and initiatives for water conservation for sustainable development. The workshop included from experiences shared by the invited speakers including  Trilochan Singh, S.E. PH, UT, Chandigarh, Dr. Siby John, PEC University of technology, Dr. Sanjay Sharma, NITTR, Chandigarh. In addition to that office bearers of FOSWAC, RWAs, Citizen Associations, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, PEC faculty, research scholars and students of PEC, Engineers of MC and Chandigarh Administration attended the workshop.
