Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police arreste 05 bookies

Chandigarh 20th January:-  In a major breakthrough, Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police arrested 05 bookies who were indulged in gambling activities on Cricket Matches. There were complaints that some gamblers are indulging in the Tricity and they are playing and planning to cheat the innocent public by the way of alluring them to put their money on the forthcoming Cricket World Cup-2015. On this information, a special team of Crime Branch consisting of Insp. Gurmukh Singh, I/C Crime Branch, Insp. Chiranji Lal, SI Ashok Kumar and SI Om Parkash under the supervision of DSP/Crime was constituted to nab such bookies As per the instructions/directions, today, i.e on 20.01.2015, the team of Crime Branch was on patrolling duty near Jamma Masjid, Sector-20, Chandigarh. One Bunty resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector-26, Chandigarh met the police party and informed that some persons are alluring the general public Sector-20-A, Chandigarh with the assurance to double their money which they would put on stake in connection with the betting with regards of the ongoing One Day International Cricket Match being played between the teams of India & England at Brisbane, Australia today. Besides above, they are not refunding the winning money to the innocent persons. Acting upon this information, after completing the legal formalities, the team raided the said premises and apprehended 05 persons red handed namely Amit Khatri, Deepak Kumar, Saurabh Sukhija, Tarun and Deepak of Haryana and recovered 01 BMW car bearing registration No. PB11-BC-0005, 01 Swift car bearing registration No. HR08-R-8839, 24 mobile phones, 2 LEDs, 5 calculators, 3 playing card boxes, 2 SIMs, cash Rs. 75,100/-  and other documents from their possession.  In this regard, a case FIR No. 17 dated 20.01.2015 u/s 420,120-B IPC and 4&13-3-67 Gambling Act has been registered in Police Station Sector-19, Chandigarh. During the course of investigation, it has come to notice that these accused are having previously involved in several cases of gambling in Haryana as well. All the 05 accused persons will be produced in the court tomorrow. Further investigation is in progress.
