Chandigarh 17th December:- A team of doctors and audiologists from ENT department of PGIMER Chandigarh was deputed by Prof Naresh K Panda, Head, Department of Otolaryngology, PGIMER for a free medical camp (E.N.T.) at Baba Bouli Bhandari Temple, Hoshiarpur. The team included Dr Jaimanti Bakshi, Additional Professor and Dr Dharamvir, Tutor along with other volunteers. Ninety patients from the nearby villages suffering from various ear, nose and throat problems were examined. Thirty-five patients were suffering from serous otitis media (SOM) and 15 had CSOM. Congenital hearing loss was seen in one child. Delayed speech & language was seen in one child. Most of the children had SOM as the cause of deafness. Presbycusis caused hearing loss in 14 elderly patients. Allergic rhinitis was seen in 12 patients. Ten patients had laryngitis GERD causing hoarseness of voice. Hyperthyroidism was seen in 2 patients. Tinnitus was found in 5 patients and they were prescribed medicines and hearing aids for curing this problem. Other team members were Dr Saraswati Gupta, Director N.R.I. Trust, Ms Pushpinder Kaur from CMC Chandigarh and Dr Arun from Widex India Ltd at Ludhiana. They distributed free medicines to these needy and poor patients. This camp was a joint venture of Baba Bouli Bhandari Trust and N.R.I. Trust Hoshiarpur.
