Chandigarh 17th November:-Professor Ashok Utreja, former Head, Oral Health Sciences Center, PGIMER has been awarded the prestigious "Dr A.V.ARUN'S OUTSTANDING PROFESSOR AWARD' FOR THE YEAR 2014 by the Indian Orthodontic Society. The award will be presented to him on 21st of November 2014 at the inauguration of 49thIndian Orthodontic Conference at Kolkata. In recognition of his outstanding academic and clinical contributions to the field of Orthodontics, the Organizing Committee of the 49thIOC and the Executive Committee of the Indian Orthodontic Society have invited Prof. Utreja to deliver theDr V Surendra Shetty Orationat the upcoming Conference in Kolkata. The annual conference is attended by nearly 2000 delegates, specializing in the field of Orthodontics. Prof. Utrejahascredited with establishing the Orthodontic treatment service for the first time in this region way back in 1974 and also for starting the MDS program in Orthodontics at PGI. He has been the Team Leader of PGI cleft palate team since 2001 and under his leadership, the PGI cleft team has been providing state of the art cleft lip and palate rehabilitation to hundreds of children. He is a founder member of the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies and was its third President in 2004. He was elected President of the Indian Orthodontic Society for the year 2006-07. He is designate Co-chairman of the International Cleft Congress to be held in Chennai, India in November 2017.
