Governor Inaugurates Japanese Garden

Chandigarh 07th November:- The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh Shivraj Patil today inaugurated the Japanese Garden, Sector 31, Chandigarh.

After taking brief look at the Garden Administrator praised the Municipal Corporation for developing beautiful garden. He said that Municipal Corporation is working on the right side of the development of city with providing Primary schools, civil dispensaries, Sports grounds and developing big gardens in the city. Stressing upon the need of cleanliness, he said that by keeping our surroundings neat and clean, the benefit will be ours only. He said that Chandigarh is not only a clean city but beautiful city also and it is our responsibility to make it more beautiful by keeping it clean and developing such gardens. He said that this garden depicts the culture of Japan and it will benefit the visitors to know the Japanese culture here in their own place. He said that there is need to promote our rich culture and cultures exchange of other countries. He said that Administration will provide sufficient funds to the Municipal Corporation for development of such parks and promotion of our rich culture. He said that there is a need of cleanliness, beauty and unity. He also appreciated the Municipal Corporation for developing underground multi level parking in sector 17 and said that MC should explore the construction of multi level parkings in other areas in next future, for that UT will extend full financial support.

K.K. Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator lauded the efforts of the Municipal Corporation for introducing such foreign culture display in the city which will benefit not only the residents of city but also create awareness among the visitors of other states too.

Earlier, Harphool Chander Kalyan Mayor welcomed the chief Guest and other dignitaries. He said that Municipal Corporation is developing world class Gardens and parks in the city. He said that with the development of this park, City beautiful has now five big gardens including Rock Garden, Rose Garden, Terreced Garden, Shivalik Garden and Japanese Garden. He said that the Municipal Corporation has completed the first phase of the Japanese theme based park, which is being constructed in two phases. The total area of the garden spread in 13 acres of which 6 acres have been developed in first phase. Total cost of the project is Rs. 6.98 crore of which Rs. 4.5 crores have been spent on first phase.

Deputy Mayor and Area Councillor Davesh Moudgil said that the primary feature of the garden is Pagoda tower, a tiered structure common in Japan and some other Asian countries. The design of the entire garden is based on Japanese architecture. There are natural stones, inscriptions in Japanese, statues of a Japanese couple welcoming tourists, Japanese style lanterns and a meditation hut.
