Chandigarh 17th November:- Motherhood is a challenging task. And it surely calls for a little bit of celebration. Like a 'ramp walk with baby bump' a show held at the Chandigarh Club. On successful completion of 15 years, the doctor couple – one an obstetrician and other a paediatrician - Dr RS Bedi and Dr Mrs GK Bedi of Bedi Hospital launched this unique concept called "Celebrating Motherhood-An Infotainment Mom & baby's day out" under their mission - Safe-Mother-Safe Child & Healthy Families - to highlight all aspects of maternity in a fun-filled manner. Notably, it is for the first time that such a show has been organised in Tricity, where around 250 contestants from tricity, and as far as Amritsar and Ludhiana participated.
With a baby bump of seven months, Ananya, from Sector 47 said, "I have been sleepless for the last seven months because we had a premature delivery last time. I was shifted to PGI in the middle of night. The baby needed ventilator which was not available, now we have chosen a centre where facilities for both mother and child are available, this outing was an out-of-the-world experience." Husband Mukesh Kapoor, a resident of Sector 24, had an interesting story to share on stage, "My wife Anjali woke me up in the middle of the night around 3 AM and asked me to take her to a chaat paapdi stall."
Explaining about the concept, Dr RS Bedi said, that motherhood is the most fulfilling, yet a very serious business and it starts before conception. Even a little negligence can ruin this great experience. During the show, exciting contests and ramp walks for Maternity Queen Pageant, Mom and Baby shows (Chandigarh Prince & Princess), kids' activities, customised baby product displays were held. This was interspersed with expert talks on pre-natal genetic screening, umblical cord cell banking by wellness partner Lifecell, avoiding Caesarian, choosing the right maternity centre, yoga, exercisesand skin care in pregnancy, baby-care, infertility, menopause, among other topics.
While explaining to guests, Dr GK Bedi said that pregnancy is divided into three periods, pre-conception, antenatal and delivering a healthy child. A checkup is required in pre-conception period, to look for genetic and inherited diseases. We should match medical kundli and not janam patris! The antenatal period should have sessions for diet, exercises, smooth delivery guidelines, breast feeding and newborn care, as also timely ultrasounds.
