Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan:MC Carries out Cleanliness Drive In Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh 1st October:- The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today carried out cleanliness drive under Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan in Mauli Jagran, Vikas Nagar, Shivalik Enclave and Motor Market, Manimajra. During the drive garbage, horticulture waste and malba was removed and lifted from the open spaces. The cleaning operation was started in the presence of area councillor, Smt. Rajinder Kaur and other prominent leaders of the area of Mauli Jagran Colony and general public was also given health education and the importance of Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan. They were also apprised of the fact that polythene bags are banned in Chandigarh and they should avoid using the same in future.  MC Safai karamcharies were using specially made pokers to pick the scattered polythene and waste papers in and around Mauli Jagran Colony. Principals/staff members and students of the schools namely Govt. Model High School Mauli Jagran and Govt. Model High School, Vikas Nagar were apprised with the importance of Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan. Students of the schools were given health education regarding cleanliness as well as awareness rally was also conducted in the area to spread the message of cleanliness amongst the residents of the Colony. Pledge in Hindi was also administered to the children of schools about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for keeping the area neat and clean.

Children of the schools were also acknowledged the importance of hand washing before taking meals and after defecation.  The technique of proper hand wash was also taught to the children of the schools. Special emphasis was given on cleanliness, safe storage of water and safe sanitation practices.  They were also instructed not to litter the garbage; it should be dumped in the garbage bins.  The dry leaves and garbage should not be burnt to prevent the environmental pollution.   The children were also told to devote two hours per week for cleanliness of their houses, galli, mohalla and surroundings. The school students have taken oath to observe cleanliness as per the instructions of the Govt. of India. Pamphlets regarding School Education Activities on Cleanliness were distributed to the Principals of the schools and they were requested to paste the same on their respective Notice Boards so that students may know about the cleanliness
